Třída byla stavěna v letech 1950–1956, a to v několika variantách označených projekt 123bis, M123bis a 123K. Licenční výroba probíhala v ČLR a v KLDR. Celkem bylo postaveno 336 jednotek této třídy. - The P 4 class torpedo boat (TB) were aluminum-hulled torpedo boats of the People's Republic of China's People's Liberation Army Navy. Based on the Soviet K-123 hydroplane design, they were armed with twin 14.5-millimetre (0.57 in) machine guns, and two 17-inch (43 cm) torpedoes. This class is currently considered obsolete, but was not completely retired from active service, being placed in reserve until the mid-1990s. The P 4 torpedo boats consisted of two primary types; the K-123 type with radar, and B-123 type without. The Chinese-built units made the radar standard for all boats, and replaced the original 12.7-millimetre (0.50 in) heavy machine guns onboard those former Soviet boats delivered to China with 14.5-millimetre (0.57 in) heavy machine guns. The PLAN transferred this class to the naval militia for training purposes, and because these boats are kept and maintained on land due to their small size, they are normally in better condition than larger units that are kept in the reserve and mothballed fleets. In addition to naval militia training duties, some of the surviving units have been converted into target drones, and have thus been returned to active service, functioning as minor support auxiliaries. As with the Yulin-class gunboat, the drone is controlled by larger converted gunboats such as the Shantou, Huangpu, and classes. Three P 4-class torpedo boats (T-333, T-336, and T-339) in the service of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam launched an abortive attack on the American Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer USS Maddox on August 2, 1964, in the first Gulf of Tonkin incident (see Edwin E. Moise, Gulf of Tonkin and the Escalation of the Vietnam War, University of North Carolina Press: Chapel Hill, 1996:73-93). The vessels T-1 and T-3 of Cyprus Navy were dispatched to engage the first Turkish flotilla at Operation Atilla as it approached Kyrenia. One vessel was destroyed by air attack, and the other by artillery from Turkish destroyers. (en)
- La classe P4 (project 123 bis nella designazione russa) è una classe di motosiluranti della Voenno-morskoj flot sovietica, realizzata in più di 300 esemplari tra la metà degli anni 1940 e la metà degli anni 1950 ed esportata largamente nei paesi amici dell'Unione Sovietica. Prima classe di motosiluranti postbelliche sovietiche, le unità P4 erano veloci e leggeri natanti con scafo in lega d'alluminio, soluzione già adottata durante il periodo bellico ma senza successo a causa dei problemi di corrosione riscontrati. Esse sono state ampiamente esportate, dall'Albania (12 unità) alla Tanzania (4 unità). L'aquirente più grande è stato però la Cina, con almeno 90 mezzi. (it)
