The Platform for Privacy Preferences Project (P3P) is an obsolete protocol allowing websites to declare their intended use of information they collect about web browser users. Designed to give users more control of their personal information when browsing, P3P was developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and officially recommended on April 16, 2002. Development ceased shortly thereafter and there have been very few implementations of P3P. Microsoft Internet Explorer and Edge were the only major browsers to support P3P. Microsoft has ended support from Windows 10 onwards. Microsoft Internet Explorer and Edge on Windows 10 will no longer support P3P. The president of TRUSTe has stated that P3P has not been implemented widely due to the difficulty and lack of value.

April 2002 als Standard empfohlen. P3P soll dem Nutzer im Internet helfen, mittels standardisierter Technik schnell einen Überblick zu erhalten, was mit den personenbezogenen Daten geschieht, die beim Besuch einer Website anfallen. Durch die Standardisierung ist es dabei möglich, auch Datenschutzerklärungen von fremdsprachigen Websites zu interpretieren oder die Angaben automatisiert auszuwerten und zu berücksichtigen. P3P fue desarrollado por el World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) y se recomendó oficialmente el 16 de abril de 2002. La plataforma establece unas preferencias especificadas. El agente puede, por ejemplo, mostrar un mensaje de alerta, generar una ventana para pedir instrucciones, permitir el acceso, rechazar el acceso... El proceso de comprobación de las preferencias se debe llevar a cabo en una zona segura en la cual el servidor web debe recoger solo la mínima información posible del cliente. Para su utilización es necesario que tanto la aplicación web como el navegador del usuario soporten P3P. Al llegar a una sección de la web que necesita unos datos específicos se consultan las preferencias del usuario en el navegador. Si coinciden con las requeridas en ese instante, se continúa.
