- The Oxford Sandy and Black is a breed of domestic pig originating in Oxfordshire. Named for its colour, which is a base of sandy brown with black patches, the breed is also sometimes called the "Plum Pudding" or "Oxford Forest pig." Related to the old Berkshire and Tamworth breeds, it is one of the oldest pig breeds native to Britain. The Oxford Sandy and Black is a hardy, docile pig suited to being reared outdoors, where its colour protects it from sunburn (which pink pigs tend to suffer from). The breed has twice neared extinction, but is recovering, partly thanks to the efforts of the breed association, the Oxford Sandy & Black Pig Society. (en)
- De Oxford Sandy and Black is een varkenras dat zijn oorsprong vindt in Oxfordshire in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het ras is genoemd naar de kleur, zwarte vlekken op een achtergrond van zandbruin. Het ras wordt ook wel "Plum Pudding-varken" of "Oxford Forest-varken" genoemd. De Oxford Sandy and Black is een winterhard, volgzaam varken dat buiten gehouden kan worden. Eerder was het ras populair bij arbeiders, omdat het van afval kon leven en gehard was. Zijn kleur beschermt tegen zonnebrand (roze varkens hebben daarvan meer te lijden). Het ras heeft twee keer op het punt gestaan van uitsterven, maar is herstellende, mede dankzij de inspanningen van de rasvereniging, de Oxford Sandy & Black Pig Society. (nl)
