- Open Het Dorp ("Open The Village") was the first big fundraising TV show in the Netherlands. It aired on Dutch TV on 26 and 27 November 1962. Het Dorp is a special village/community for disabled people. To raise the required funds to build and open the community a TV show was organized. The program was at that moment the first nationwide fundraising TV-show, and it was done in the format of a telethon, lasting for 23 hours. Mies Bouwman entirely presented it. Most local corner-shops cooperated: viewers could donate by putting cash in a small box (matchbox) and bring it to the local shop: most shops opened their doors on the evening of 26 November; the show was aired on TV and radio simultaneously as large numbers of people did not own a TV at that time. Director of the TV show was Theo Orderman. During the show over 400 artists and other VIPs appeared in the show. After 23 hours fundraising a total amount of 21 million Dutch guilders was collected which was used to open the community for disabled people Het Dorp near the city of Arnhem. - Open het Dorp was een Nederlands televisieprogramma van de AVRO. Het was het eerste grote geldinzamelingprogramma op de Nederlandse televisie. De bedoeling van Open het Dorp was om geld in te zamelen voor een woongemeenschapwijk en zorginstelling voor gehandicapten. Deze woongemeenschapwijk en zorginstelling werd later dan ook gesticht, te weten Het Dorp te Arnhem. Het programma vond plaats op 26 en 27 november 1962 en duurde drieëntwintig uur. Het werd tegelijkertijd op de radio uitgezonden en werd gepresenteerd door Mies Bouwman. De televisieregie was in handen van Theo Ordeman. Tijdens de uitzending traden vierhonderd artiesten op, onder wie de cabaretier Wim Kan, die via de telefoon honderdduizend gulden wist los te praten bij rijke landgenoten. De uiteindelijke totaalopbrengst van de actie was 21.192.000 gulden. Initiatiefnemer was de medicus Arie Klapwijk. Hij was waarnemend directeur van Het Dorp en tevens voorzitter van de Stichting Het Dorp, die enkele jaren later werd gesticht. (nl)
