- Als Novizenmeister oder Magister bzw. Magistra (vom lat. Magister novitiorum) bezeichnet man in den Ordensgemeinschaften der römisch-katholischen Kirche jene Ordensmitglieder, die für die Einführung und Ausbildung der Ordensanwärter zuständig sind. Tritt ein Anwärter einem Orden bei, durchläuft er eine mehrjährige Erprobungs- und Ausbildungszeit und gilt zuerst als Postulant oder Kandidat, nach der Zulassung zum Noviziat als Novize (vom lateinischen noviter, „Neuankömmling“). Der Novizenmeister (oder die Novizenmeisterin) ist damit beauftragt, die Novizen auszubilden und ihnen das Hineinwachsen in das Ordensleben zu erleichtern: In Vorträgen, Einzelgesprächen usw. ist er die erste Ansprechperson in allen Fragen, die die Novizen betreffen. Zugleich prüft er sie auch auf ihre Berufung wie auf ihre Eignung für das Leben im Orden und der Gemeinschaft. Das Kirchenrecht sieht vor, dass der Novizenmeister selbst Mitglied des Ordens sein muss, dessen Anwärter er unterweist, er muss die ewige Profess abgelegt haben und rechtmäßig bestellt sein. Vor der Zulassung zur Einkleidung und später vor der einfachen und vor der ewigen Profess wird der Novizenmeister um seine Einschätzung gebeten, die naturgemäß eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Während der anschließenden Studienjahre werden die angehenden Kleriker von einem Klerikermagister oder Studentenmagister (Magister studentorum) begleitet. (de)
- In the Roman Catholic Church, a novice master or master of novices, lat. Magister noviciorum, is a member of a religious institute who is responsible for the training and government of the novitiate in that institute. In religious institutes for women, the novice mistress, lat. Magistra noviciorum, is the equivalent. The direction of the novices is reserved solely to the master of novices, under the authority of the major superiors. The master of novices must be a member of the institute; he must have taken perpetual vows and be legally appointed. The novice master is often assisted by a zelator (second or deputy novice master). The novice master's duty is to see that the time devoted to the period of the novitiate be passed in prayer, meditation, and the development of character through a study of the life of Jesus Christ and the saints, church history, the vows and the constitution of the institute. Within the time of this probation, he must make reports about each novice to his superior regarding these matters. For this purpose, he is to be free from all other duties and offices. Prior to the admission to the investiture and later before simple and perpetual vows, the master of novices is asked for his assessment. The Rule of Saint Benedict does not contain a separate chapter on the master of novices. In addition to general monastic maturity, the gift of winning souls is mentioned as a special qualification for the monk who takes care of the novices. A source of 1827 states that the novice master "should be a completely reliable, purely moral and true religious, who is able to familiarize the novices theoretically and practically with the purpose of the order and with the spirit of the statutes". - Mistrz nowicjatu (mistrzyni nowicjatu, magister nowicjatu) — w katolickich zgromadzeniach zakonnych osoba prowadząca nowicjat, czyli wprowadzająca kandydatów w życie zakonne i przygotowująca ich do złożenia profesji. Podstawowym zadaniem mistrza jest sprawdzenie powołania i rzeczywistych intencji kandydatów. Mistrzem nowicjatu może być wyłącznie członek zgromadzenia, który związany jest ze zgromadzeniem ślubem wieczystym, i któremu tę funkcję przydzielił właściwy mu przełożony. Mistrz jest jedynym i bezpośrednim przełożonym nowicjuszy, i nie powinien sprawować innych funkcji w zgromadzeniu poza kierowaniem nowicjatem. Podstawowe zadania mistrza reguluje Kodeks prawa kanonicznego w kan. 650—652. (pl)
- Mestre dos noviços ou mestre das noviças é um termo utilizado na Igreja Católica Romana para fazer referência ao religioso a quem foi encarregado o treinamento de noviços ou noviças e o controle sobre o noviciado de uma instituição religiosa. Sua função é garantir que o período do noviciado seja dedicado à oração, meditação e ao desenvolvimento do caráter pelo estudo da vida de Cristo e dos santos, da história da Igreja, dos votos e da constituição da instituição. Durante o período probatório, cabe a ele reportar sobre o desenvolvimento de cada noviço ou noviça às autoridades superiores. Para realizar a função, o mestre ou a mestre não ocupa nenhum outro cargo e está dispensado de todas as demais funções. Estritamente falando, ele não é um "superior" de acordo com a definição da lei canônica, apesar de ter os mesmos direitos e deveres sobre os noviços que um superior tem sobre seus súditos. A lei canônica prescreve que um mestre deve ter pelo menos 35 anos, pelo menos 10 de vida religiosa e ser eminente em prudência, caridade, piedade e na observância das regras e regulamentos da instituição. Se a sociedade em questão é uma na qual uma grande quantidade de membros poderá, no futuro, ser ordernado ao sacerdócio, o mestre dos noviços precisa ser um padre. (pt)
