dbp:summary
  • The volume tells the back story, from before Yuusuke Yura lost at the Olympics to Nono's start of high school. Yuuta and Nono loved skiing and were happily living with their parents. Their father, Yuusuke Yura, was considered a sure medalist at the Olympics. However, Yuusuke did not medal at any of the individual events. The last event was the team event. Japan was in first place and all Yuusuke had to do was a regular jump for Japan to win. However, due to pressure and a preexisting knee injury, Yuusuke fell causing Japan to go into fourth place. This caused all of Japan to hate Yuusuke. At a speech, a lot of people were insulting Yuusuke, so Yuuta and Nono got on stage and vowed to get the gold medal in their father's stead. Four years later, Yuuta and Nono are third years at elementary school and are competitive ski jumpers. They enter three competitions together. Nono competes in the elementary school division for the first two competitions and wins easily. In the third competition, she was put in the middle school division, facing boys up to six years her senior, but she still ends up placing first. Yuuta, however, didn't medal at any of the competitions. Nono could not figure out why her father wasn't proud of her, until he yelled that women can't compete at the Olympics. After that, Nono quit ski jumping. Four years later, Yuuta and Nono are in middle school. Yutta still spends a lot of time daily training in ski jumping. However, due to lack of talent and his father forcing him to use older techniques rather than modern ones, Yutta places worse and worse. He still can't beat the 67 meter mark that Nono placed in their final competition together. Yuuta placed 85th out of 89 people in the Hokkaido regional tournament, after which, Yuusuke finally gives up. Yuusuke attempts to commit suicide but is saved in time. Yutta then steals Nono's clothes and set fire to the shed while he is still inside. He leaves a note for Nono, telling her to become him and win the gold medal. (en)
