El presidente del partido es el antiguo miembro del Partido Liberal Democrático Suzuki Muneo. Suzuki renunció del PLD en junio de 2002 luego de ser arrestado por ser sospechoso al aceptar sobornos. Fue encarcelado por cohecho y otros cargos en el 2003, y anunció la creación del partido cuando salió libre por fianza. Fue un crítico de las políticas de Koizumi Jun´ichiroy de la privatización postal. Está registrado como partido político regional de Hokkaidō. En las elecciones generales de 2005 Suzuki fue el único miembro electo para la Cámara de Representantes de Japón con un escaño proporcional en el bloque de Hokkaido. Il a été fondé le 18 août 2005 par ce dernier et ses partisans, pour la plupart dissidents du parti libéral-démocrate, afin d'assurer son retour à la Diète et de s'opposer à la privatisation de la poste japonaise voulue par le Premier ministre Jun'ichirō Koizumi, celui-ci ayant convoqué alors des élections anticipées après le rejet de son projet de loi par la Chambre des conseillers. Il disparaît le 28 décembre 2011 pour laisser la place à une nouvelle formation, élargie à des parlementaires dissidents du PDJ et du Nouveau parti Nippon et baptisée Vrai parti démocrate - Daichi.
