NTLMSSP (NT LAN Manager Security Support Provider) is a messaging protocol implemented as a Windows service which uses a binary message format to authenticate clients that use the NTLM challenge and response authentication protocol to log on or access network resources. It provides security to RPC programs that use transports other than named pipes. It has been removed from Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 in favor of the newer Kerberos authentication protocol.
