- La N-623 es una carretera nacional perteneciente a la Red de Interés General del Estado (RIGE), de un carril por sentido en la mayor parte de sus tramos. Su recorrido discurre entre la ciudad de Burgos, en Castilla y León, y Santander, en Cantabria. Comparte trazado con la carretera N-627, entre Burgos y San Martín de Ubierna, a pocos kilómetros de la ciudad de Burgos, en Castilla y León. Es una de las principales vías de comunicación entre la Meseta Central y la costa cantábrica. Durante su recorrido, atraviesa la cordillera Cantábrica por el puerto del Escudo. Además, esta vía constituye el trazado más corto en distancia entre las ciudades de Burgos y Santander. (es)

It then heads north having a junction with the . The road then climbs to cross the Puerto del Paramo de Masa and then Portillo del Fresno (1,050 m). The road then winds down to the Upper Ebro valley. There is a junction with the N-232 at the eastern edge of the Embalse del Ebro. The road then climbs again into the Cordillera Cantabria crossing Puerto del Escudo (1,100m). Continuing along a narrow valley the road reaches the . Thereafter, the road turns north east towards Santander and a junction with the Autovía A-67. (en)
- De N-623 is een weg in noord Spanje. Hij verbindt Burgos met Santander. Hij start in Burgos bij de Autovía A-62 en de aansluiting op de N-I. Hij passeert de stad over de rivier Arlanzón. Daarna gaat hij noordwaarts waarbij er een aansluiting is met de . De weg gaat dan omhoog over de Puerto del Paramo de Masa en den Portillo del Fresno (1050 m) waarna het omlaag gaat naar het begin van de Ebro vallei. Daar is een aansluiting met de N-232 aan de oostzijde van de Embalse del Ebro. Daarna gaat de weg weer omhoog door de Cordillera Cantabria en over de Puerto del Escudo (1100m).
