Ευρισκόμενο στη Βιθυνία, πιθανώς στα περίχωρα της Προύσας, ο μοναχισμός γνώρισε άνθηση στην συγκεκριμένη τοποθεσία κατά τη διάρκεια του 9ου και 10ου αιώνα, κυρίως υπό τον ώθηση του Αγίου , ωστόσο φαίνεται να παράκμασε εντός συντόμου χρονικού διαστήματος στη συνέχεια.
