- El segell de l'Estat de Virgínia de l'Oest fou adoptat el 1863. El centre del segell conté una roca en la qual hi ha inscrita la data del 20 de juny del 1863, data en la qual Virgínia Occidental es va convertir en un estat. Davant la roca, es poden veure dos fusells encreuats coberts per un barret frigi que simbolitza la importància de l'estat en la lluita per a la llibertat. Els dos homes de cada costat de la roca, representen l'agricultura i la indústria: el del costat esquerre és un granger amb una destral i una arada abans de la collita i el de la dreta és un miner amb una pic i darrere d'ell un martell i una enclusa. - Le sceau de l'État de Virginie-Occidentale a été adopté en 1863. Le centre du sceau contient un rocher dans lequel est inscrit 20 juin 1863, date à laquelle la Virginie-Occidentale devint un état. Devant le rocher, on peut voir deux fusils entrecroisés surmontés d'un bonnet phrygien pour montrer l'importance de l'État dans la lutte pour la liberté. Les deux hommes de chaque côté du rocher représentent l'agriculture et l'industrie. Sur le côté gauche il y a un fermier avec une hache et une charrue avant une moisson. On the left stands a farmer with an ax and plow before a cornstalk. On the other side stands a miner with a pickax, and behind him an anvil and sledge hammer. The outer ring contains the text "State of West Virginia" and the state's motto "Montani Semper Liberi", ("Mountaineers are Always Free"; the state nickname is "the Mountain State").
