- Microcleididae is an extinct family of basal plesiosauroid plesiosaurs from the Early Jurassic (middle Sinemurian to late Toarcian stages) of France, Germany, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Currently, the oldest and the most known microcleidid is Eretmosaurus from the middle Sinemurian of the United Kingdom. Microcleididae was formally named and described by Roger B. J. Benson, Mark Evans and Patrick S. Druckenmiller in 2012. (en)

- De Microcleididae zijn een groep zeereptielen, behorend tot de Plesiosauria, die leefde in het vroege Jura. In 2012 benoemden , Mark Evans en een klade Microcleididae, een aftakking van soorten die voeger onder de Plesiosauridae werden gerekend. De klade werd gedefinieerd als de groep bestaande uit homalospondylus en alle soorten nauwer verwant aan Microcleidus homalospondylus dan aan Plesiosaurus dolichodeirus, Cryptoclidus eurymerus, Elasmosaurus platyurus, superstes, Pliosaurus brachydeirus of Polycotylus latipinnis. Als gedeelde nieuwe kenmerken, synapomorfieën van de groep werden vastgesteld: ver uiteen staande facetten van de achterste nekribben; de facetten van de achterste borstribben raken zowel het wervellichaam als de wervelboog; de binnenkant van het blad van het darmbeen is van voor naar achter hol; de bovenste helft van het spaakbeen heeft aan de voorkant een ver naar voren uitstekende beenplaat. Microcleididen zijn gevonden van het Sinemurien tot en met het Toarcien. Het volgende kladogram geeft de stamboom van de Microcleididae weer volgens de analyse van Benson e.a. uit 2012. (nl)
