- (Methylcyclopentadienyl)mangantricarbonyl (Abk.: MMT oder MCMT) ist ein metallorganischer Halbsandwichkomplex des Mangans mit der Halbstrukturformel [(CH3C5H4)Mn(CO)3]. Es handelt sich um eine dunkelorange Flüssigkeit mit einem schwachen, angenehmen Geruch. Die Verbindung wurde ab 1958 als Zusatz zum Additiv Tetraethylblei verwendet, später wurde es in unverbleitem Kraftstoff eingesetzt. Zweck war die Erhöhung der Oktanzahl. Obwohl MMT als Benzinadditiv in den USA von 1977 bis 1995 verboten war, wurde es in Kanada ab 1976 eingesetzt. Zwischen 1997 und 1998 wurde es aufgrund von Gesundheitsrisiken nicht mehr eingesetzt. MMT wird unter den Handelsnamen HiTec 3000 and AK-33X verkauft. Von T2 Labs wird es unter dem Namen Ecotane vermarktet. In Deutschland ist die Verwendung von (Methylcyclopentadienyl)mangantricarbonyl durch das Benzinbleigesetz verboten. (de)
- Le (méthylcyclopentadiényl)manganèse tricarbonyle est un composé organométallique (carbonyle de métal) de formule chimique (η5-CH3C5H4)Mn(CO)3 dont la géométrie est dite « demi-sandwich » ou « en tabouret de piano ». C'est un toxique cellulaire qui libère en se dégradant des composés qui contiennent du manganèse, lequel est un métal devenant neurotoxique au-delà des doses qui en font un oligoélément. Photodégradable et thermodégradable, ce produit inventé et mis sur le marché dans les années 1950 par la société Ethyl Corporation (qui est aussi à l'origine du plomb tétraéthyle) est principalement utilisé comme additif des carburants (antidétonant) depuis les années 1970, en de plus fortes concentrations quand il a remplacé le plomb dans l', du fait de la forte toxicité de ce dernier. Sa combustion dans les moteurs automobiles contribue à une pollution de l'atmosphère en composés de manganèse. (fr)

Initially marketed as a supplement for use in leaded gasoline, MMT was later used in unleaded gasoline to increase the octane rating. Following the implementation of the Clean Air Act (United States) (CAA) in 1970, MMT continued to be used alongside tetraethyl lead (TEL) in the US as leaded gasoline was phased out (prior to TEL finally being banned from US gasoline in 1995), and was also used in unleaded gasoline until 1977. Ethyl Corporation obtained a waiver from the U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in 1995, which allows the use of MMT in US unleaded gasoline (not including reformulated gasoline) at a treat rate equivalent to 8.3 mg Mn/L (manganese per liter). MMT has been used in Canadian gasoline since 1976 (and in numerous other countries for many years) at a concentration up to 8.3 mg Mn/L (though the importation and interprovincial trade of gasoline containing MMT was restricted briefly during the period 1997–1998) and was introduced into Australia in 2000. It has been sold under the tradenames HiTEC 3000, Cestoburn and Ecotane.> (en)
