- METATYPE1 és un conjunt d'eines dedicades a crear fonts tipus 1 desenvolupades per l'equip polonès JNS (Bogusław Jackowski, Janusz Marian Nowacki i Piotr Strzelczyk). Per fer funcionar aquestes eines s'inclou dins del paquet el llenguatge MetaPost, desenvolupat amb anterioritat per John Hobby alumne de Donald Knuth. MetaPost produeix gràfics en PostScript encapsulat. Jackowski i els seus col·legues van escriure rutines especials en el llenguatge MetaPost per generar caràcters tipogràfics de contorn. MetaType 1 s'ha emprat per generar caràcters tipogràfics llatins dissenyats per ordinador i ha resultat una eina especialment emprada per satisfer el disseny de signes diacrítics. - MetaType1, also stylized as METATYPE1, is a tool for creating Type 1 fonts using MetaPost, developed by the Polish JNS team (Bogusław Jackowski, Janusz Marian Nowacki and Piotr Strzelczyk). Since Metafont cannot produce outline fonts (vector-based), a new tool was needed to help creating such fonts, primarily for use with TeX, although the OpenType versions of the fonts might be used in any other program. It is less powerful than Metafont since no pens can be used, only filled paths, but it still allows creation of parametric fonts. Most important fonts produced with MetaType1 are: Latin Modern, , , , Antykwa Półtawskiego, and Iwona. (en)
