- مسعود ولد بلخير (1943- )، سياسي وزعيم موريتاني، يعتبر من أوائل السياسيين الحراطين، من مؤسسي مدينة لعيون، انتقل إلى لعيون قادما من مدينة أنيورو في مالي، حتى لقبه الشيخ بالتاجر الصدوق. لقبته الإدارة الاستعمارية آنذاك بشيخ المدينة وكان منزله المكان الذي تجتمع فيه الإدارة المحلية نظرا لغياب الدور والمساكن، أقيم في منزله اجتماع مجلس الوزراء تحت قيادة الرئيس الراحل «المختار ولد داداه»، كان له الفضل في تخطيط سوق المدينة ومنح قطعة أرضية ليبنى فيها المسجد العتيق المعروف اليوم، شق طرقا برية من «لعيون» إلى «أنيورو» في مالي، ومن لعيون مرورا ب«الطويل» ثم «اليوانة» وصولا إلى مدينة «خاي»، طريق لعيون «كيفة_كنكوصة_صوفة_سيلبابي»، بنى آبارا منها بئرا شرق المدينة في حي «لكنيبة»، وبئرا جنوب دار السلامة يسمى «لفجح» وآخر في «آكريباي»، تميز بالزهد والتواضع وكان محبا لبني جلدته وأصدقائه وأرضه. - Messaoud Ould Boulkheir (1943) es un político de Mauritania, líder de la Alianza Popular Progresista. Es el primer político mauritano descendiente de antiguos esclavos que ocupa un alto puesto en el Estado. Hay que tener en cuenta que la esclavitud en el país fue abolida en 1981 y el gobierno siempre había sido acusado de tolerarla a pesar de la abolición. Boulkheir fue candidato en las elecciones presidenciales en 2003, donde quedó en cuarto lugar con el 5 % de los votos. Participó de nuevo en las elecciones legislativas de 2006 para la Asamblea Nacional, donde obtuvo cinco escaños. Después participó en las elecciones presidenciales de 2007, no resultando elegido, obteniendo en la primera vuelta un 9,8 por 100 de los votos populares. En la segunda vuelta apoyó a Sidi Uld Cheij Abdellahi, quien finalmente fue elegido presidente de la República. Después de que este jurase el cargo, Boulkheir fue elegido presidente de la Asamblea Nacional el 26 de abril con 91 votos, de los 95 diputados. (es)

Messaoud also contributed towards the end of the 1989 events in Mauritania, protecting the right of the victims and the emancipation of the Haratine in Mauritania with his party. Boulkheir is President of the People's Progressive Alliance, and he was the President of the National Assembly of Mauritania from April 2007 to January 2014. (en)

Candidat présenté par le Front national pour la défense de la démocratie, Messaoud Ould Boulkheir termine deuxième de l'élection présidentielle mauritanienne de 2009, avec 16,3% des voix.
