- Mit Mesohyl (früher: Mesogloea) bezeichnet man eine spezielle Form der extrazellulären Matrix bei Schwämmen (Porifera). Schwämme sind Metazoa, das heißt mehrzellige Tiere. Da ihre Zellen jedoch nur locker organisierte Zusammenschlüsse sind und somit keine echten Gewebe darstellen, werden sie den Parazoa zugeordnet.Sie besitzen im Unterschied zu den Gewebetieren keine Organe. Spezialisierte Zellen ( und Collencyten) stellen Skelett-Nadeln (Sklerite, Spicula genannt) und ein kollagenähnliches Protein (Spongin) her, das im Mesohyl stark vernetzt wird. Bei der Austrocknung von Schwämmen und nach dem Absterben der Tiere bleibt die Spongin-Matrix erhalten und kann bei einigen Arten der (Dictyoceratida) kommerziell als Badeschwamm genutzt werden. (de)

- The mesohyl, formerly known as mesenchyme or as mesoglea, is the gelatinous matrix within a sponge. It fills the space between the external pinacoderm and the internal choanoderm. The mesohyl resembles a type of connective tissue and contains several amoeboid cells such as amebocytes, as well as fibrils and skeletal elements. For a long time, it has been largely accepted that sponges lack true tissue, but it is currently debated as to whether mesohyl and pinacoderm layers are tissues. The mesohyl is composed of the following main elements: collagen, fibronectin-like molecules, galectin, and a minor component, dermatopontin. These polypeptides form the extracellular matrix which provides the platform for specific cell adhesion as well as for signal transduction and cellular growth. The mesohyl includes a noncellular colloidal mesoglea with embedded collagen fibers, spicules and various cells, being as such a type of mesenchyme. (en)

Mesohil menyerupai jenis jaringan ikat dan mengandung beberapa sel amoeboid seperti , serta dan elemen kerangka. Untuk waktu yang lama, telah banyak diterima bahwa spons tidak memiliki jaringan yang sebenarnya, tetapi saat ini diperdebatkan apakah lapisan mesohil atau adalah bagian dari jaringan spons. Zawiera ona komórki, co odróżnia ją od mezoglei występującej u jamochłonów; przez to mezohyl jest często błędnie określany właśnie tym terminem. Funkcjonalnie jest odpowiednikiem mezoglei i mezenchymy. W stadiach młodocianych gąbek mezohyl jest koloidalnym płynnym żelem, a w późniejszych stadiach tworzy galaretowatą macierz. (pl)

Il mesoilo assomiglia a un tipo di tessuto connettivo e contiene diverse cellule ameboidi come gli amebociti, nonché fibrille e elementi scheletrici. Per molto tempo, è stato ampiamente accettato che le spugne mancano di vero tessuto, ma è attualmente in discussione se gli strati di mesoilo e pinacoderma siano tessuti. Il mesoilo è composto dai seguenti elementi principali: collagene, molecole simili a fibronectina, galectina e un componente minore, dermatopontina.
