- Mantaritza es una reserva de la biosfera de Bulgaria desde el año 1977. Se encuentra en el norte del pico en los montes Ródope. La reserva se sitúa en la subregión florística de Bulgaria de los Ródope occidentales dentro de la provincia centroeuropea. Se creó como reserva natural en el año 1968 para proteger los antiguos bosques de coníferas y los biotipos del urogallo. Actualmente se encuentra bajo revisión. Tiene una altitud que va desde los 1.200 metros hasta los 1.900 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Tiene una extensión de 1.318 hectáreas, de las que 1.069,2 son zona núcleo y 248,3 ha zona tampón. El principal ecosistema es mixto de montaña y tierras altas. Los principales hábitats son de bosques mixtos de Pícea común, Pino silvestre, Abeto común y Haya. En cuanto a la fauna, se pueden encontrar aquí osos pardos, ciervos, corzos, jabalíes, martas, tejones, grévol, pitos negros y herrerillos capuchinos. (es)
- Mantaritza Biosphere Reserve (Bulgarian: Биосферен резерват "Мантарица") is situated to the north of Golyama Syutka Peak in the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria, and covers an area of 1319,9 hectares. The reserve was established in 1968 to protect the old coniferous forests and the biotopes of the Western capercaillie (Tetrao urogalus). The area was declared as biosphere reserve in 1977. It represents century-old forests of pure and mixed stands of Norway spruce (Picea abies), European birch (Fagus sylvatica) and European silver fir (Abies alba). The reserve is situated in the Bulgarian Floristic sub-region of West Rhodope within the Central European mountain biotic province. The varied fauna includes brown bear (Ursus arctos) , red deer (Cervus elaphus), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), wild boar (Sus scrofa), pine marten (Martes martes), European badger (Meles meles), hazel grouse (Bonasa bonasia), black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) and crested tit (Parus cristatus). This area has been little affected by man. Before the biosphere reserve was designated in 1977, small-scale selective cutting took place and water reservoirs were constructed.
