Districts will often shorten their names; for example, Sandy Valley Local School District is often referred to as Sandy Valley Schools. Districts are listed by the name the district uses to refer to itself. In southwestern Ohio, portions of Preble and Butler counties near College Corner are served by the Union County–College Corner Joint School District of Union County, Indiana. The State of Ohio reimburses the state of Indiana for the cost of educating Ohio students.
