- Die Las Vegas Desert Classic waren ein Major-Turnier im Dartsport, die zwischen 2002 und 2009 von der Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) veranstaltet wurden. - The Las Vegas Desert Classic was a darts tournament, organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and was held each year in July from 2002 until 2009. Its original venue was the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada from 2002 to 2005, but the tournament moved down the strip to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from 2006 to 2009. The tournament carried a total prize purse of £126,400 (approx US$250,000). Due to the time difference between the UK and US, the matches were played in the morning local time – which is prime-time evening in the UK where the tournament was broadcast live on Sky Sports. Initially Fox Sports World transmitted the tournament live but in recent years they broadcast recorded coverage in the United States. Partypoker.net became the first sponsors of the event in 2006. The format of the Classic changed over the years. In 2002, the tournament had a sets format with best of 7 legs per set. In 2003, the tournament had a legs only format throughout with a round robin group stage of 8 groups with 3 players each, before it became straight knockout from the quarter finals onwards. In 2004 and 2005, the tournament reverted to straight knockout with a sets format with best of 5 legs per set throughout. In 2006, the tournament had a legs only format in the Last 32, before reverting to a sets format with best of 5 legs per set for the Last 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and the Final. From 2007 to 2009, the tournament remained straight knockout but moved back to a legs only format throughout. Phil Taylor won the title five times out of the eight years the event was staged. Peter Manley, John Part and Raymond van Barneveld were the only other winners of the event. The Las Vegas Desert Classic tournament was retired in 2010 and a new tournament held in Las Vegas, the Tropicana World Series, has been put in its place. However, the tournament is not televised. - De Las Vegas Desert Classic was een internationaal dartstoernooi en tot en met 2009 een van de zeven televisietoernooien van de Professional Darts Corporation. De Las Vegas Desert Classic werd tussen 2002 en 2009 ieder jaar in juni gehouden in het MGM Grand Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. Na 2006 werd het toernooi gespeeld in het Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, dat een grotere capaciteit bezit. Via een knock-outsysteem speelden 32 deelnemers, voorafgegaan door kwalificatiewedstrijden, om de titel. Het totaal aan prijzengeld bedroeg per editie US$250.000. Met de wens van de PDC om de dartsport wereldwijd te ontwikkelen werd het toernooi in Las Vegas in de beginjaren dankzij sponsors kunstmatig in leven gehouden. Later werd het evenement op de televisie uitgezonden door Fox Sports World (VS), Sky Sports (Verenigd Koninkrijk) en Sport1 (Nederland). Phil Taylor won de eerste titel ooit in Las Vegas door Ronnie Baxter in de finale van 2002 te verslaan. Sindsdien pakte Taylor nog viermaal de Las Vegas Desert Classic-titel (2004, 2005, 2008, 2009). Peter Manley won het toernooi in 2003. In 2006 eiste de Canadees John Part de vijfde editie van de Desert Classic op door Raymond van Barneveld te kloppen in de eindstrijd. Een jaar later behaalde Barney op de Las Vegas Desert Classic 2007 de titel tegen de Engelsman Terry Jenkins. Na de editie van 2009 stopte het toernooi. Er kwam een ander toernooi voor in de plaats, de Tropicana World Series, maar dit toernooi werd niet uitgezonden op televisie. (nl)

Pierwotnie rozgrywany był w MGM Grand Las Vegas, obecnie organizowany jest w Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Średnio pula nagród wynosi ok. £126,400. W związku z różnicami w czasie w Wielkiej Brytanii i USA mecze rozgrywane są rankiem czasu lokalnego - rozgrywki są transmitowane w UK w godzinach popołudniowych za pośrednictwem stacji Sky Sports. Pierwotnie turniej był transmitowany na żywo za pośrednictwem telewizji Fox Soccer Channel, obecnie jednak nadawane są powtórki. Serwis Partypoker.net jest sponsorem turnieju od 2006. Sposób rozgrywania turnieju ewoluował na przestrzeni lat (pierwsza edycja była rozgrywana jedynie w legach, bez setów). Od 2004 turniej rozgrywany był w setach, by w 2007 powrócić do legów (wówczas tytuł zdobył Raymond van Barneveld). Phil Taylor, który odpadł w 1. rundzie w 2007 zdobył tytuł w 2008, wygrywając z Jamesem Wade'em 13-7 (mając średnią 105.53). Taylor jest czterokrotnym triumfatorem turnieju. (pl)
