- The Landkreis Sprottau was a district of the German state Prussia from 1816 to 1945. It was part of the Prussian Province of Lower Silesia, before 1919 the Prussian Province of Silesia. In 1932 it was merged with Landkreis Sagan. Its present-day successors are Powiat Żagański and Powiat Polkowicki. On 1 January 1945 it included:
* 3 cities, Primkenau, Sagan and Sprottau.
* 102 municipalities,
* 4 Gutsbezirke (forests and the military training area Neuhammer am Queis). (en)

Powiat Sprottau utworzono w rejencji legnickiej pruskiej prowincji Śląsk. W 1932 r. do powiatu Sprottau włączono większość zlikwidowanego powiatu Sagan, ale jednocześnie siedzibą powiatu zostało miasto Żagań. Od 1945 r. terytorium powiatu znajduje się pod administracją polską. W 1910 r. powiat obejmował 108 gmin o powierzchni 730,15 km² zamieszkanych przez 39.882 osób. (pl)
