- A kicker, also called a side card, is a card in a poker hand that does not itself take part in determining the rank of the hand, but that may be used to break ties between hands of the same rank. For example, the hand Q-Q-10-5-2 is ranked as a pair of queens. The 10, 5, and 2 are kickers. This hand would defeat any hand with no pair, or with a lower-ranking pair, and lose to any higher-ranking hand. But the kickers can be used to break ties between other hands that also have a pair of queens. For example, Q-Q-K-3-2 would win (because its K kicker outranks the 10), but Q-Q-10-4-3 would lose (because its 4 is outranked by the 5). (en)
- Lors de l'abattage des cartes au poker, il arrive que certains joueurs se trouvent avec une main de niveau équivalent. Pour déterminer le vainqueur de ce coup, on compare lorsque cela est possible les cartes restantes. On appelle alors kicker ou kicker card (ou plus rarement carte de départage) la carte la plus haute qui fait la différence entre deux mains de niveau équivalent. Si le kicker n'existe pas, le pot est également réparti entre les joueurs qui présentent des mains de force équivalente. Les deux joueurs présentent des mains équivalentes puisqu'il y a une paire de rois des deux côtés. On compare alors les autres cartes (de la plus haute à la plus faible). Un valet chez chacun des joueurs ne nous donne aucune nouvelle information. Par contre un joueur possède un kicker huit, tandis que l'autre n'a qu'un sept. Le huit battant le sept, la première main l'emporte donc grâce à son kicker huit.

Jeżeli inny gracz ma parę króli w postaci K-K-Q-5-4 wygrywa, ponieważ Dama jest wyżej niż dziewiątka. Ale gdyby ten inny gracz miał K-K-9-6-3, to jego układ byłby słabszy (w obydwu rękach występuje dziewiątka, więc decydujący jest drugi z kolei kicker, a szóstka przegrywa z ósemką). Kickery nie występują w stritach ani w pokerach. W przypadku trójki i karety decydują o wyniku tylko w grach typu Hold'em (w oraz w dwie takie same trójki lub karety nie są możliwe). W przypadku fulla jeżeli są dwie takie same trójki, wygrywa ten, kto ma wyższą parę (ten przypadek występuje również tylko w Hold'emie). Określeniem kicker określa się również kartę zostawianą podczas wymiany w pokerze pięciokartowym dobieranym w celu zmylenia przeciwnika (np. wymiana dwóch kart gdy ma się tylko parę). (pl)
