- James Edmund Burke (April 23, 1849 – May 4, 1943) was an American politician who served as the 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 27th Mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Burke was the last third-party mayor of Burlington until 1981 when the Independent democratic socialist Bernie Sanders was elected, who was then succeeded by Progressives Peter A.
