- Der eiserne Rat (engl. Titel: Iron Council) ist ein Science-Fiction-Roman des britischen Autors China Tom Miéville. Es ist sein vierter Roman und der dritte, der in der Welt von Bas-Lag spielt. Die beiden Vorgänger sind Perdido Street Station aus dem Jahr 2000 und The Scar aus 2002, mit denen Der eiserne Rat den Steampunkcharakter teilt. Dazu zitiert Der eiserne Rat noch vielfältige Elemente des klassischen Western. - Iron Council (2004) is a weird fantasy novel by the British writer China Miéville, his third set in the Bas-Lag universe, following Perdido Street Station (2000) and The Scar (2002). In addition to the steampunk influences shared by its predecessors, Iron Council draws several elements from the western genre. Iron Council is one of China Miéville's most overtly political novels, being strongly inspired by the anti-globalization movement, and tackling issues such as imperialism, corporatism, terrorism, racial hatred, homosexuality, culture shock, labour rights and war. The novel won the Arthur C. Clarke and Locus Awards in 2005, and was also nominated for the Hugo and World Fantasy Awards the same year. (en)

- Il treno degli dèi (Iron Council, 2004) è il quarto romanzo dello scrittore britannico China Miéville, ed il terzo ambientato nel mondo immaginario del Bas-Lag. Oltre alle influenze steampunk e New Weird che caratterizzavano gli altri romanzi della serie, Il treno degli dèi presenta alcuni elementi del genere western. Rispetto agli altri lavori narrativi dello scrittore inglese, Il treno degli dèi è probabilmente quello in cui l'impegno politico dell'autore traspare maggiormente, essendo fortemente ispirato dalle posizioni del movimento anti-globalizzazione e del inglese, e trattando tematiche sociali complesse come imperialismo, corporativismo, terrorismo, odio razziale, omosessualità, assimilazione culturale, diritti dei lavoratori e guerra.
