- Investigating censors (Chinese: 監察御史; lit. 'Monitoring & Investigating Royal Scribes/historians') were Censorate officials in imperial China's civil bureaucracy between the Sui (581–618) and Qing (1644–1912) dynasties. They were in charge of investigations and impeachment, including duties such as:
* gather complaints from the people
* review the handling of prisoners

- 监察御史，中国古代官职，掌监察百官、巡视郡县、纠正刑狱、肃整朝仪等事。隋文帝开皇二年（582年）始设。唐御史台分为三院，监察御史属察院，品秩正八品下。宋元因之。明改御史台为都察院，掌弹劾建言，设左右都御史各一人、左右副都御史各一人、左右佥都御史各二人，其下设监察御史一百一十人，分属各道，初为正九品，洪武十七年（1384年）提升为正七品，多以新科进士为之。清朝沿制，乾隆十七年（1752年）升从五品。明清监察御史因所受差遣之不同，又有诸多不同名目，如巡视农务即为巡农御史、巡视漕运即为巡漕御史、巡视盐政即为巡盐御史、巡视茶法即为巡茶御史、巡视屯田即为巡田御史、巡视边防即为巡关御史。各道均有御史七至十一人，十三道共一百一十人，合称十三道监察御史。 (zh)
