  • Ιχνεύμων είναι η κοινή ονομασία υμενόπτερων εντόμων που ανήκουν στην υπεροικογένεια Ichneumonidea. Περιλαμβάνει περίπου 80.000 είδη, από τα οποία τα περισσότερα ζουν στο Βόρειο Ημισφαίριο. Παρουσιάζουν σημαντικές διαφοροποιήσεις όσον αφορά στο σχήμα, στο μέγεθος και στους χρωματισμούς. Το σώμα τους είναι μακρόστενο και κυλινδρικό, μοιάζει με αυτό της σφήκας, αλλά είναι πιο λεπτό. Η κοιλία τους είναι μεγάλη και κυρτή. Έχουν μεγάλες κεραίες με πολλές αρθρώσεις, καθώς και μακριά πόδια. Τα μεγαλύτερα είδη της οικογένειας, με μέγεθος περίπου 5 εκ., ζουν στη Βόρεια Αμερική. Τρέφονται με το νέκταρ των λουλουδιών. Τα θηλυκά αφήνουν τα αβγά τους πάνω στις κάμπιες άλλων εντόμων. Οι προνύμφες τους παρασιτούν σε αυτές τις χρυσαλλίδες μέχρι να αναπτυχθούν σε τέλεια άτομα. Πολλά από τα μέλη της οικογένειας βοηθούν στην καταπολέμηση των παρασίτων στις αγροτικές καλλιέργειες. (el)
