She was appointed a professor of law at Bifröst University in 2004; teaching courses in constitutional law and comparative constitutional law as well as courses in business and human rights. She has served on the board of trustees of the Academy of European Law and represented Iceland at the Venice Commission. She was elected Vice President of the Venice Commission in 2013 and re-elected in 2015. In 2009, she was elected President of the European Women Lawyers Association (EWLA).
