- Als Schwergut werden besonders schwere und/oder sperrige Ladungsgüter bezeichnet, die aufgrund ihrer Form, ihres Gewichts oder Sensibilität nicht in Standard-Containern transportiert werden können. Beispiele dafür sind große Turbinen, Yachten oder andere kleinere Schiffe wie Schlepper, Eisenbahnwaggons oder Lokomotiven, Hafenkrane, Windkraftanlagen (bzw. Teile davon), Fabrikmodule oder Komponenten der Öl- und Gas-Industrie oder Offshorebauwerke. Ein einzelnes Frachtstück kann bis zu 1000 Tonnen oder mehr wiegen und/oder eine Dimension von 100 Meter in eine Richtung erreichen. Kennzeichnend für Schwergut ist die fehlende Standardisierung des Frachtstücks, die im Gegensatz zu Containern oder Schüttgut eine individuelle Transportplanung nötig macht. Schwergüter werden in der Regel als Ganzes oder in großen Einzelteilen transportiert und können dafür nicht weiter zerlegt werden oder es wäre unwirtschaftlich, sie wieder zu zerlegen. (de)
