- Guy Lane Nesom (* 2. August 1945 in Colorado Springs) ist ein US-amerikanischer Botaniker und wissenschaftlicher Autor. Sein offizielles botanisches Autorenkürzel lautet „G.L.Nesom“. Er lebt zurzeit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nesom promovierte 1980 an der University of North Carolina in systematischer Botanik und arbeitet in den Forschungsbereichen botanische Nomenklatur und Systematik. Bisherige Arbeiten befassten sich mit Korbblütlern (Asteraceae) Nordamerikas, zu denen er in den 1990er Jahren mehrere Veröffentlichungen schrieb. Darin sprach er sich dafür aus, den Gattungsnamen Aster in mehrere Gattungsnamen aufzuteilen. Aktuell ist er im Projekt Flora of North America tätig. Mehrere Pflanzenarten wurden nach Nesom benannt, wie z. B. Zeltnera nesomii aus der Familie der Enziane und Steviopsis nesomii aus der Familie der Korbblütler. Nesom received his Ph.D. in systematic botany from the University of North Carolina in 1980, and has since contributed much to the fields of botanical nomenclature, systematics, and evolution. His most notable contributions are probably his works on the Asteraceae of North America, with several papers published throughout the 1990s that argued for multiple generic names to replace the single polyphyletic name Aster, and his recent and ongoing contributions to the Flora of North America project. Several plant species have been named for Nesom, such as of the gentian family and Steviopsis nesomii of the aster family. Three genera are named in his honor: Nesomia, Neonesomia, and Guynesomia. The standard author abbreviation G.L.Nesom is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name. (en)
