- Η Φ/Γ Λήμνος F-451 (πρώην Wittedewith F-813), κλάσης Standard, κατασκευάστηκε στα ναυπηγεία "Netherlands Koninklijke" της Ολλανδίας. Η ναυπήγηση της άρχισε στις 13 Ιουνίου 1978 και καθελκύστηκε στις 27 Οκτωβρίου 1979. Στις 7 Ιουλίου 1981 το Ελληνικό Πολεμικό Ναυτικό υπέγραψε τη σύμβαση αγοράς του σκάφους και στις 18 Σεπτεμβρίου 1982 υψώθηκε η Ελληνική Σημαία στο πλοίο στην πόλη Βλίσινγκεν της Ολλανδίας. Είναι το τρίτο κατά σειρά πλοίο του Πολεμικού Ναυτικού της Ελλάδας, το οποίο φέρει το όνομα Λήμνος. Πρώτο ήταν το θωρηκτό "Λήμνος", το οποίο έλαβε αυτό το όνομα σε ανάμνηση της νικηφόρας ναυμαχίας της Λήμνου της 5ης Ιανουαρίου 1913, αποτέλεσμα της οποίας ήταν να κριθεί οριστικά η ελληνική κυριαρχία στο Αιγαίο πέλαγος. Δεύτερο ήταν το αρματαγωγό "Λήμνος" που αποκτήθηκε το 1943 από την κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ. (el)
- Limnos (F451) is an Elli-class frigate of the Hellenic Navy, and the third Greek warship to bear the name. The class is based on the Royal Netherlands Navy's Kortenaer class and was built in a Dutch shipyard; however, unlike later members of her class in the Hellenic Navy, she was not originally in Dutch service, but was sold directly to Greece. Limnos was constructed in Vlissingen, Netherlands, along with her sister ship Elli. The contract for her construction was signed in Athens in July 1981 and her commissioning took place on 18 September 1982. After commissioning, Limnos joined the Hellenic Fleet on 5 November 1982 and since then she has actively participated in its activities. (en)

Het schip, dat gebouwd is door de Koninklijke Maatschappij de Schelde, was oorspronkelijk als de Witte de With bedoeld voor de Nederlandse marine. De verkoop van de Limnos werd in juli 1981 in Athene afgehandeld. In 1981 werd ook al de Elli, een ander fregat van de Kortenaerklasse over gedragen aan de Griekse marine. Het schip is het derde schip met de naam Limnos bij de Griekse marine, eerdere schepen waren van en . Het is vernoemd naar het Greekse eiland Limnos, dat tijdens de Balkanoorlog (1912-1913) als voorpost van de Griekse marine functioneerde. (nl)
