Diese gelb-schwarz gefärbte Großlibelle (Anisoptera) besiedelt als einzige Vertreterin ihrer Familie vorwiegend stehende Gewässer – alle anderen Gomphiden benötigen Fließgewässer für ihre Larvalentwicklung. In Mitteleuropa galt sie bis vor einigen Jahrzehnten als äußerst selten; inzwischen zeigt die Art hier eine Ausbreitungstendenz und man kann ihr in Flusstälern mit Kiesabbaustätten häufiger begegnen. Der aus dem Griechischen und Lateinischen zusammengesetzte wissenschaftliche Name bedeutet so viel wie „hübscher Keil“. (de)
- Gomphus pulchellus, the western clubtail, is a species of dragonfly in the family Gomphidae. It is found in Western Europe, although absent in the British isles. Its natural habitat are clean ponds and canals, clay and mud holes. The species is 47–50 mm long. It is the only Gomphidae that lacks the "club-shaped" abdomen, in spite of its name.As an adult, it is mainly pale olive-green with blue eyes. It emerges early in spring, can be seen as soon as the end of March in the South of France and flies until August depending on the location.

Obserwowana jest ekspansja tego gatunku na północ i wschód wiązana z ociepleniem klimatu. W 2014 roku odnotowano pierwsze potwierdzone stwierdzenie w Czechach, w 2010 roku odłowiono larwę w rzece w Czarnogórze, a w 2014 i 2015 roku stwierdzono larwy i wylinki nad Jeziorem Szkoderskim położonym na granicy Czarnogóry i Albanii. Stare stwierdzenia z niektórych krajów środkowej i południowo-wschodniej Europy (w tym z terenów Polski, Słowacji, Węgier, Rumunii i Macedonii Północnej) uznawane są za wątpliwe. (pl)

Gomphus pulchellus ingår i släktet Gomphus och familjen flodtrollsländor. IUCN kategoriserar arten globalt som livskraftig. Arten har ej påträffats i Sverige. Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life. (sv)
