- Giuseppe De Cristoforis oder De Cristofori (* 11. Oktober 1803 in Mailand; † 27. Dezember 1837 ebenda) war ein italienischer Naturforscher und Sammler. Giuseppe De Cristoforis gehörte dem milanesischen Adel an. Er studierte in Volterra und entwickelte so seine Neigung zur Naturkunde. Aus der 1823 geschlossenen Ehe gingen zwei Töchter hervor, 1831 verstarb seine Frau. In diesem Jahr lernte er den an der Universität Parma lehrenden österreichischen Botaniker Georg Jan kennen.Im Sommer 1831 erwarb er dessen naturkundliche Sammlung und vereinte sie mit seiner eigenen; so bildete er in seinem Haus den Kern des späteren naturhistorischen Museums (Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano).Er vermachte schließlich seine Sammlung der Stadt Mailand unter der Bedingung, dafür ein Museum einzurichten und Giorgio Jan mit dessen Leitung zu betrauen.Nach einigen Tagen Krankheit starb er im Alter von 34 Jahren. Die Molluskensammlung von De Cristofori und Jan in Milano wurde im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. (de)

Also known as Joseph de Cristoforis or Giuseppe Cristofori, he was born in Milan. He studied entomology, specialising in Coleoptera. He was a natural history and insect dealer in Milan. His collections, merged with those of Giorgio Jan, were the basis of Museo Civico di Storia Naturale of Milan. He bequeathed them to the city in 1832 on the condition that the municipality created a natural history museum curated by his friend Giorgio Jan. He died at Milan in 1837. (en)

- Giuseppe Antonio Ambrogio De Cristoforis, latinizzato in Josephus de Cristofori, (Milano, 11 ottobre 1803 – ivi, 27 dicembre 1837) è stato un naturalista italiano.Patrizio milanese, nacque dal nobile Luigi e dalla nobile Maria Francesca Prata.Il suo nome venne registrato nell'album dei benemeriti della città di Milano per avere lasciato in dono una grande collezione di oggetti di storia maturale, riunita insieme all'amico Giorgio Jan (1791-1866). La collezione fu l'origine del Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano e fu donata alla città nel 1832 a condizione che la municipalità creasse un museo di storia naturale curato dallo Jan. Di quella collezione i due diedero alle stampe una descrizione dal titolo: Giuseppe De Cristoforis e Jan Giorgio, Cataloghi sistematici e descrittivi degli oggetti di storia naturale esistenti nel loro museo. Milano, 1832. Morì a Milano nel 1837 e venne seppellito al cimitero di Porta Tosa fuori da Porta Vittoria, non più esistente. (it)
