- The Geodimeter (acronym of geodetic distance meter) was the first optical electronic distance meter surveying instrument.It was originally developed for measuring the speed of light.It was invented in 1947 by and commercialized in 1953 by the AGA (Aktiebolaget Gasaccumulator) company of Sweden.It was used in the Transcontinental Traverse. - Geodimeter var från början en elektrooptiskt längdmätare uppfunnen av Erik Bergstrand och senare utvecklad av Ragnar Schöldström på AGA. Själva ordet Geodimeter är en förkortning av Geodetic Distance Meter. Med tiden blev Geodimeter synonymt med olika från AGA-fabriken, till exempel totalstationer. Namnet Geodimeter har hängt kvar, trots att fabriken har köpts upp i flera omgångar. Numera ägs fabriken av Trimble. Geodimeter var först ut i världen med autolock och robotic totalstationer.

- Um geodímetro é um instrumento de medidas geodésicas e topográficas, inventado pelo engenheiro sueco Erik Bergstrand, em 1948. O seu princípio consiste na emissão de um feixe de radiação na gama do infravermelho. A distância é calculada tendo como base o tempo entre a emissão do feixe e o retorno do mesmo ao dispositivo emissor após a sua reflexão numa superfície ou alvo, cuja distância à fonte emissora se pretende medir.
