His classic L'homme rapaillé (partly translated as The March to Love: Selected Poems of Gaston Miron, whose title echoes his celebrated poem La marche à l'amour) has sold over 100,000 copies and is one of the most widely read texts of the Quebecois literary canon. Committed to his people's separation from Canada and to the establishment of an independent French-speaking nation in North America, Gaston Miron remains the most important literary figure of Quebec's nationalist movement. - Gaston Miron (né à Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts le 8 janvier 1928, et mort à Montréal le 14 décembre 1996) est un poète et éditeur québécois. Il est surtout connu pour L'Homme rapaillé, un recueil de poèmes publié pour la première fois en 1970 et considéré comme une œuvre majeure de la littérature québécoise. Traduite dans une dizaine de langues, cette compilation des vers du poète a un impact décisif sur le rayonnement de la poésie québécoise dans la francophonie et ailleurs dans le monde. Miron est également l'un des fondateurs des Éditions de l'Hexagone, la première maison d'édition québécoise consacrée à la poésie. Intellectuel engagé, socialiste et nationaliste québécois acharné, Gaston Miron est aussi un homme d'action qui s'implique au sein des mouvements ouvriers et au service de l'indépendance du Québec. À sa mort, le gouvernement québécois lui offre des obsèques nationales célébrées dans sa ville natale, le samedi 21 décembre 1996. Seul littéraire québécois à avoir eu droit à cette honneur, il est considéré comme un éminent « poète national » du Québec. (fr)
