The fear of sharks can stem from media portraying sharks as vicious monsters like the 1975 movie Jaws, 1999 Deep Blue Sea and 2012 Dark Tide. The fear can also be amplified with the physical appearance such as the teeth and eyes. The name galeophobia derives from the Greek language with galeos meaning shark and phobia meaning fear.
