Galeophobia or selachophobia (Greek for shark fear) is the abnormally large and resistant fear of sharks. People who have galeophobia often have anxiety along with elevated heart rates, short breath, shaking, sadness, hopelessness, nausea, dizziness, fainting, fear of death and sweating when near sharks. The fear of sharks can stem from media portraying sharks as vicious monsters like the 1975 movie Jaws, 1999 Deep Blue Sea and 2012 Dark Tide.
