It is about 0.5 miles (800 m) from Baia, and about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the acropolis of Cumae. It is separated from the sea by a narrow coastal strip. It is a very unusual ecosystem of great interest, characterized by a variety of vegetation specific to the region. (en)
- Der Lago Fusaro ist ein flacher See bei Bacoli. Er liegt in Kampanien westlich von Neapel. Nur ein schmaler Küstenstreifen trennt ihn von dem Salzwasser des Tyrrhenischen Meeres am Golf von Neapel. Da auch Süßwasser zufließt, ist er mit Brackwasser gefüllt und bildet insofern ein spezielles Biotop, wo beispielsweise die Grüne Samtschnecke vorkommt. Er ist vulkanischen Ursprungs. Der See wurde unter anderem zur Austernzucht genutzt. 1782 baute Carlo Vanvitelli, Sohn von Luigi Vanvitelli, auf einer kleinen künstlichen Insel für Ferdinand I. an dessen Landsitz einen Jagdpavillon (it.: „casino da caccia“). Jakob Philipp Hackert malte im Folgejahr für den König vor Ort ein Bild namens „Jagd auf dem Fusaro-See“ und wurde dabei von Joseph II. und Johann Wolfgang von Goethe besucht. Das Werk wurde 1799 von Lazzaroni gestohlen; nur die Skizzen blieben erhalten, sie bekam Albert Kasimir von Sachsen-Teschen. In antiken Schriften wurde der See als „Acherusia lacus“ oder „Acherusia palus“ bezeichnet. Von einem in der Antike angelegten Kanal ist noch Opus reticulatum erhalten. Benachbart finden sich mit Baiae und Cumae antike Stätten. Lina Wertmüller drehte hier 1999 den Film „Ferdinando e Carolina“. (de)

Le lac a toujours été fameux pour ses élevages d'huitres, de moules et d'autres animaux marins, et ceci même avant l'arrivée des Grecs vers le VIIe siècle av. J.-C.. Dans le Comte de Monte-Cristo d'Alexandre Dumas, une lamproie provenant du Fusaro est servie sur la table du comte à Auteuil. Le roi de Naples Ferdinand IV de Bourbon y fit construire un pavillon de chasse et de pêche, la Casina Vanvitelliana, sur un projet de Luigi Vanvitelli. (fr)
- Il lago Fusaro (o lago Acherusio) si trova nel comune di Bacoli (comune alle porte di Napoli) e dà il nome all'omonima frazione che l'accoglie. Il lago si è formato con la chiusura del tratto di mare fra le frazioni di Torregaveta e Cuma. Il suo perimetro misura circa 4,10 km ed ha una superficie di 0,97 km quadrati. Nell'antichità era identificato con la mitica Acherusia palus, la palude infernale formata dal fiume Acheronte. Prima dell'arrivo dei greci, le popolazioni locali coltivavano nel lago mitili ed ostriche; vi sono allevamenti di cozze che di tanto in tanto vengono interrotti causa inquinamento. Gli allevamenti del lago vengono menzionati nel romanzo Il conte di Montecristo di Alexandre Dumas, quando il conte fa servire a tavola nella sua casa di Auteuil una lampreda proveniente direttamente dal lago di Fusaro fra lo stupore dei commensali.
