- Mit dem aus den USA stammenden Ausdruck Food Swap (engl. aus Food, dt. Essen, Nahrung und Swap, zu deutsch Austausch, Tauschhandel) werden Treffen bezeichnet, bei denen die Teilnehmer ausschließlich selbst hergestellte oder erzeugte Nahrungsmittel wie Früchte, Gemüse usw., Konserven (Marmelade etc.) oder z. B. Brot untereinander tauschen. Nach Inaugenscheinnahme und Probieren tragen sich die jeweiligen Interessenten in die bei den einzelnen Produkten ausgelegte Listen ein, nach der Vereinbarung der Tauschwerte werden schließlich die einzelnen Angebote unter den Interessenten nach Art einer „stillen Versteigerung“ verteilt. Apart from diversifying their larders and redistributing surpluses and gluts, they provide opportunities for building stronger communities, and picking up tips. No money changes hands. Attendees bring items that they wish to swap and then bid for each other's produce, either verbally or on cards in the form of a silent auction, until suitable swaps are negotiated.
