- La bandera de Ottawa porta en su centro una "O" estilizada, cuya intención es la de representar a la vez a una hoja de arce (símbolo de Canadá) y la y al edificio central del Parlamento de Canadá (símbolos de Ottawa). La intención era tener una bandera que a la vez fuese simple y festiva. La bandera lleva los colores azul y verde, elegidos para representar a la nueva ciudad de Ottawa. El azul representa los ríos y otros cursos de agua de la región de Ottawa. El verde representa los numerosos espacios verdes, así como la calidad de vida de la región. La bandera fue adoptada el 1 de enero de 2000 a raíz de la creación de la nueva ciudad de Ottawa mediante la fusión de la antigua ciudad de Ottawa con los suburbios circundantes. La antigua bandera de Ottawa era una tricolor púrpura, roja y azul. Esta bandera se adoptó en 1901 y era la bandera municipal más antigua de Canadá cuando se sustituyó. Se utilizaron esos colores para representar a la monarquía (púrpura), al Partido Liberal (rojo) y al Partido Conservador (azul). No obstante, no fue muy popular debido a su apariencia. This stylized O is meant to represent both a maple leaf (symbolizing Canada) and the Peace Tower and Centre Block of the parliament buildings (symbolizing Ottawa). The design is meant to be simple, but look festive, and to create a feeling of vibrant motion when flying. The design uses the blue and teal colours chosen to represent the new City of Ottawa. The blue is symbolic of rivers and waterways that are part of the Ottawa region, such as the Ottawa River. The large teal areas speak to the large green space and quality of life in the area, as well as the forests, trees, and parkland within the city. It was adopted January 1, 2000, following the creation of the Ottawa "megacity". (en)
- Le drapeau d'Ottawa porte en son centre un « O » stylisé, qui est censé représenter à la fois une feuille d'érable (symbole du Canada) et la Tour de la Paix et l'édifice au centre du parlement (pour symboliser Ottawa). L'intention était d'avoir un drapeau à l'apparence à la fois simple et festive. Le drapeau porte les couleurs bleu et vert choisies pour représenter la nouvelle ville d'Ottawa. Le bleu représente les rivières et autres cours d'eau de la région d'Ottawa. Le vert représente les nombreux espaces verts ainsi que la qualité de vie dans la région. Le drapeau fut adopté le 1er janvier 2001 à la suite de la création de la nouvelle ville d'Ottawa par la fusion de l'ancienne ville d'Ottawa avec les municipalités environnantes. L'ancien drapeau d'Ottawa était un drapeau tricolore violet, rouge et bleu. Ce drapeau avait été adopté en 1901 et était le plus ancien drapeau municipal au Canada lorsqu'il fut remplacé. Les trois couleurs devaient représenter la monarchie (violet), le Parti libéral (rouge) et le Parti conservateur (bleu). Toutefois, le drapeau n'était pas populaire à cause de son apparence.
