- مراقب الحريق (يسمى أيضا مشاهد الحريق) هو شخص مكلف للبحث عن النار من فوق مبنى يعرف باسم برج مراقبة الحريق. وتستخدم هذه الأبراج في المناطق النائية التي عادة ما تكون على قمم الجبال العالية التي يمكن ان تكشف جميع التضاريس المحيطة بها، وذلك لتحديد الدخان الناتج عن حريق هائل. بمجرد اكتشاف حريق محتمل، يتم نقل «تقارير الدخان» أو «لقطات المَرقب» إلى مركز اتصالات الطوارئ المحلي (ECC)، غالبًا بواسطة الراديو أو الهاتف. يمكن أن يستخدم مُراقب الحريق جهازًا يُعرف Osborne Firefinder للحصول على درجات نصف قطرية خارج البرج، والمسافة المقدرة من البرج إلى الحريق. ويشمل جزء من واجبات المُراقب أخذ قراءات الطقس وإبلاغ مركز الاتصالات في حالات الطوارئ على مدار اليوم.وفي كثير من الأحيان تتداخل لقطات المرقب في منطقة الحريق مما يوفر قراءة واضحة وبالتالي يسمح لمركز اتصالات الطوارئ باستخدام تثليث (هندسة رياضية) للوصول إلى احداثيات موقع الحريق بدقة. وما أن تنشط الطواقم الأرضية وطائرات إطفاء الحرائق في إخماد الحرائق، يواصل أفراد المراقبة البحث عن أعمدة دخان جديدة قد تشير إلى وجود اماكن اندلاع حريق آخر قد تشكل خطر على الطواقم الأرضية. إن العمل في برج مراقبة الحرائق في وسط منطقة برية يتطلب نوعاً من قوة الشخصية، التي تمكن صاحبها من العمل بدون إشراف ويستطيع البقاء بدون أي تفاعل بشري آخر.بعض الأبراج يمكن الوصول إليها بالسيارة، ولكن البعض الآخر بعيد جدا يجب أن يوضع المرصد في مكان عالي أو ان يتم رفعه باستخدام مروحية، وفي العديد من المواقع لا يوجد كهرباء أو مياه جارية حتى في أبراج مراقبة الحرائق الحديثة. معظم أعمال مراقبة الحرائق موسمية خلال موسم الحريق. يمكن أن يكون المراقبون من ذوي الأجور أو من المتطوعين. وقد بدأت بعض المنظمات التطوعية في الولايات المتحدة في إعادة بناء أبراج مراقبة الحرائق القديمة واستعادتها وتشغيلها. - El guaita forestal és una persona que te assignada la tasca de buscar columnes de fum procedents d'incendis forestals al llarg del dia durant les hores d'insolació, des d'un punt fix al territori, normalment una torre de guaita d'incendis ubicada als cims o muntanyes que destaquin per una bona vista del terreny circumdant. La seva activitat es desenvolupa durant el període d'alt risc d'incendi forestal, per la qual cosa és una activitat temporal. Són professionals preparats per detectar des del primer moment qualsevol columna de fum, localitzar-la amb precisió perquè puguin reaccionar amb eficàcia tots els serveis d'emergència, i servir de guia de l'evolució de la columna de fum fins a l'arribada dels serveis d'extinció. Poden dependre del Cos que té la potestat d'extinció d'incendis (normalment bombers), o de l'espai natural on estigui ubicada la torre de guaita. La Generalitat de Catalunya va substituir el 2020 els guaites forestals per càmeres en les 48 torres de guaita que gestiona. A Catalunya segueixen operant els guaites forestals gestionats per municipis, Diputació de Barcelona i Consorci de Collserola. (ca)
- A fire lookout (partly also called a fire watcher) is a person assigned the duty to look for fire from atop a building known as a fire lookout tower. These towers are used in remote areas, normally on mountain tops with high elevation and a good view of the surrounding terrain, to spot smoke caused by a wildfire. Once a possible fire is spotted, "Smoke Reports", or "Lookout Shots" are relayed to the local Emergency Communications Center (ECC), often by radio or phone. A fire lookout can use a device known as an Osborne Fire Finder to obtain the radial in degrees off the tower, and the estimated distance from the tower to the fire. Part of the lookout's duties include taking weather readings and reporting the findings to the Emergency Communications Center throughout the day. Often several lookouts will overlap in coverage areas and each will “cross” the same smoke, allowing the ECC to use triangulation from the radials to achieve an accurate location of the fire. Once ground crews and fire suppression aircraft are active in fire suppression, the lookout personnel continue to search for new smoke plumes which may indicate spotting and alterations that pose risks to ground crews. Working in a fire lookout tower in the middle of a wilderness area takes a hardy type of person, one who can work with no supervision, and is able to survive without any other human interaction. Some towers are accessible by automobile, but others are so remote a lookout must hike in, or be lifted in by helicopter. In many locations, even modern fire lookout towers do not have electricity or running water. Most fire lookout jobs are seasonal through the fire season. Fire lookouts can be paid staff or volunteer staff. Some volunteer organizations in the United States have started to rebuild, restore and operate aging fire lookout towers. Although it was considered as “man’s work” in the U.S., women have been doing the job almost from its beginnings. (en)
