- Egidio Viganò (born in Sondrio, Italy on June 29, 1920, died in Rome on January 23, 1995) was a Roman Catholic priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco, who was the 7th Rector Major of that Order from 1977 until his death in 1995. Although he was an Italian, he considered Chile as his second home country because he moved there when he was 19 years old. He was also confessor of Pope John Paul II, a prominent theologian and writer. During the first centenary of the death of Don Bosco (1988), Pope John Paul II dedicated to him the Apostolic Letter Iuvenum Patris (Father of the Youth): "To our beloved son Egidio Vigano, Rector Major of the Salesian Society on the First Centenary of the death of Saint John Bosco - John Paul II, Supreme Pontiff." He participated also in the Second Vatican Council. (en)
- Egidio Viganó fue un sacerdote católico salesiano y el de Don Bosco entre 1977 y 1995, tiempo en el cual se constituyó como el VII sucesor de Juan Bosco en el gobierno de la segunda comunidad religiosa masculina de la Iglesia católica. Viganó fue el segundo R.M. que más ha durado en el cargo por espacio de 18 años (el primero fue Don Miguel Rúa, quien estuvo 22 años). Aunque nació en Italia, Don Viganó se formó en Chile desde la edad de 19 años, país este que consideró como su tierra natal. Fue además muy cercano al Pontificado de S.S. Juan Pablo II siendo su confesor. Se destacó como un notable teólogo y un prolífero escritor, teniendo una gran influencia en el seno de la Iglesia católica. El máximo acontecimiento que marcó el rectorado de Viganó fue el I Centenario de la muerte de San Juan Bosco el 31 de enero de 1988, motivo por el cual el Papa Juan Pablo le dirigió la Carta Apostólica Iuvenum Patris (Padre de los Jóvenes). Participó además como consultor en el Concilio Vaticano II. (es)

Viganò trad in 1935 in bij de Salesianen en hij werd in 1939 door de orde naar Chili gestuurd waar hij verbleef tot 1961. In 1977 volgde hij Luigi Ricceri als 7e opvolger van Don Bosco als overste van de Salesianen. Hij werd tweemaal herverkozen en werd na zijn dood opgevolgd door de Argentijn Juan Edmundo Vecchi.
