La puesta se compone de uno u ocasionalmente dos huevos; un huevo analizado media 38.4 x 27.8 mm (Mackay 1990). Se alimenta principalmente de frutos, semillas y artrópodos. Es una especie común en la limitada zona donde habita, y ha sido considerada una especie bajo preocupación menor por la UICN. (es)
- The eastern parotia (Parotia helenae), also known as Helena's parotia, is a medium-sized passerine of the bird-of-paradise family, Paradisaeidae, endemic to mountain forests of the Bird's Tail Peninsula (Papua New Guinea). It is approximately 27 cm long. The scientific name honors Princess Helena Augusta Victoria, the third daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. As with other species of Parotia, the male is polygamous and performs spectacular courtship display in the forest ground. The clutch contains 1, maybe occasionally 2 eggs; one that was studied was 38.4 x 27.8 mm in size (Mackay 1990). It eats mainly fruit, seeds and arthropods. A common species throughout its limited range, it is listed on Appendix II of CITES. (en)

Parotia helenae Paradisier d'Helena Espèce Parotia helenaeDe Vis, 1891 Statut de conservation UICN LC : Préoccupation mineure Statut CITES Annexe II , Rév. du 01/07/1975 Le Paradisier d'Helena (Parotia helenae) est une espèce d'oiseaux de la famille des Paradisiers, endémique des forêts de montagne au sud-est de la Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée. Son nom normalisé lui a été attribué en l'honneur d'Helena du Royaume-Uni, troisième fille de la reine Victoria du Royaume-Uni. Cet oiseau a été découvert par De Vis en 1891. L'espèce est quelquefois considérée comme une sous-espèce de P. lawesii qui vit dans la région d’Enga à celle de Goroka. Frith & Frith (2009) la considèrent comme simple sous-espèce. Sa répartition contiguë à celle de la forme nominale (montagnes Owen Stanley) suggère un statut de sous-espèce alors que la forme nominative est nettement séparée en deux. Néanmoins, Irested et al. (2009) traitent helenae comme une espèce distincte avec une séparation de lawesii depuis 1,2 million d’années. Elle se distingue extérieurement par un bec plus fin ; le mâle avec une bande nasale ocre mais la femelle identique à celle de la forme nominale. Cette espèce est inscrite sur l'annexe II de la CITES. (fr)
