- Earthdawn ist ein Pen-&-Paper-Rollenspiel, das in einer fiktiven fernen Vergangenheit unserer Erde spielt. Die Welt von Earthdawn war zum Zeitpunkt der ersten Veröffentlichung die offizielle Vergangenheit der Welt von Shadowrun. Beide Rollenspiele wurden damals vom US-amerikanischen Verlag FASA Corporation herausgegeben. Earthdawn zeichnet sich durch ein ausgeklügeltes Magiesystem und einen allgemein hohen Powerlevel der Spielercharaktere aus. Jede spielbare Charakterklasse ist magiebegabt. In der zugehörigen Kampagnenwelt Barsaive ist Magie dementsprechend allgegenwärtig. Die Beschreibung der Kampagnenwelt ist durchgängig eng mit dem Regelwerk verknüpft, was Earthdawn zu einem außergewöhnlich kohärenten Spielsystem macht. (de)
- Earthdawn is a fantasy role-playing game, originally produced by FASA in 1993. In 1999 it was licensed to Living Room Games, which produced the Second Edition. It was licensed to RedBrick in 2003, who released the Classic Edition in 2005 and the game's Third Edition in 2009 (the latter through Mongoose Publishing's Flaming Cobra imprint). The license is now held by FASA Games, Inc. (from FASA), who have released the Fourth Edition, with updated mechanics and an advanced metaplot timeline. Vagrant Workshop released the Age of Legend edition in 2016 using alternative rules-lite mechanics. The game is similar to fantasy games like Dungeons & Dragons, but draws more inspiration from games like RuneQuest. The rules of the game are tightly bound to the underlying magical metaphysics, with the goal of creating a rich, logical fantasy world. Like many role-playing games from the nineties, Earthdawn focuses much of its detail on its setting, a province called Barsaive. It was also originally written as a prequel to Shadowrun, mirroring its setting of returning magic with one where magic has just recently dropped from its peak. However, after Shadowrun was licensed out to a different publisher the ties between the two were deliberately severed (See ) and remain so. (en)

Earthdawn se déroule dans un univers médiéval fantastique assez classique peuplé d'elfes, de nains, de trolls etc. Cependant, malgré un classicisme apparent, Earthdawn se démarque par un aspect post-apocalyptique et une omniprésence de la magie. En effet tous les personnages, lieux, objets, aptitudes et talents sont liés, utilisent ou découlent de la magie et ont été touchés d'une manière ou d'une autre par « Le Châtiment ». Il est intéressant de souligner que Earthdawn se passe dans le lointain passé de Shadowrun, un jeu de rôle cyber-punk également édité par FASA, où l'on y retrouve certains personnages mythiques d'Earthdawn, tel que Harlequin. - Earthdawn è un gioco di ruolo fantasy, pubblicato per la prima volta dalla FASA nel 1993. Nel 1999 venne licenziato alla Living Room Games, che pubblicò la seconda edizione. Correntemente (2011) è licenziato alla RedBrick LLC, che ha pubblicato la terza edizione nel 2009 tramite l'etichetta Flaming Cobra della Mongoose Publishing. Il gioco è simile a regolamenti fantasy come Dungeons & Dragons, ma con molte influenze da regolamenti come RuneQuest. Il regolamento di gioco è strettamente legato alla metafisica magica sottostante dell'ambientazione, con l'obiettivo di creare una mondo fantasy più ricco e logico. Come molti altri giochi di ruolo degli anni novanta, Earthdawn si concentra soprattutto sulla sua ambientazione, una terra fantasy chiamata , che viene considerata il passato remoto di Shadowrun.
