- Els dâw són un poble indígena del Brasil. Viuen a la riba dreta del Rio Negro (Amazones) en una zona coneguda com a la . Comparteixen aquesta zona juntament amb altres pobles indígenes, inclosos els altres parlants de llengües nadahup, amb els quals estan estretament relacionats, com els nadëb, els nukak, i els hupda - però també pobles arawak i pobles tucanos, com el barasanes i tucanos. La paraula Dâw és un autònim, que significa "gent". A la literatura, així com a l'Alto Rio Negro, sovint se'ls denomina Kamã, però es considera molt pejoratiu. Durant la dècada de 1980, els dâw estaven a punt d'extingir-se a causa d'un desequilibri entre el nombre d'homes i dones. Només hi havia poques dones i moltes de les dones que quedaven eren velles i no podien tenir fills. El 1984 el nombre de dâw era de només 56. Des de llavors la situació ha millorat considerablement, i els dâw ja no estan amenaçats per l'extinció malgrat la baixa població. Tots els dâw tenen la llengua dâw com a primera llengua, mentre que molts parlen també nheengatu i portuguès. - Die Dow sind ein indigenes Volk im Amazonasbecken im Nordwesten Brasiliens, das zur Ethnie der Maku gehört. Sie leben auf der rechten Seite des Rio Negro in einem Gebiet, das gemeinhin als Alto Rio Negro bekannt ist. In diesem Gebiet leben indigene Völker aus drei großen Sprachfamilien zusammen: die Maku, zu denen auch die Dow gehören, arawakische und Tukano-Stämme. Das Wort Dow ist die Eigenbezeichnung und bedeutet Menschen. In der Literatur und in ihrem Lebensraum werden sie oft als Kamã bezeichnet, was aber eine herabsetzende Bedeutung hat. In den 1980er Jahren waren die Dow kurz vor ihrer Auslöschung wegen eines Ungleichgewichts in der Anzahl von Männern und Frauen. Es gab nur noch wenige Frauen und viele von ihnen waren alt und unfähig Kinder zu gebären. 1984 gab es nur noch 56 Dow. Seitdem hat sich die Situation deutlich gebessert und die Dow sind trotz ihrer geringen Bevölkerungszahl nicht mehr von der Auslöschung bedroht. Neben ihrer , die von allen Dow als ihre Muttersprache gesprochen wird, können auch viele nheengatu und portugiesisch sprechen. Heute haben die Dow permanent Kontakt zu nichtindigenen Leuten, meistens in der nahegelegenen Stadt São Gabriel da Cachoeira. Sie sind Opfer des Alkoholismus geworden und leiden infolge des Rückgangs der Waldgebiete in der Umgebung von São Gabriel unter konstanter Unterernährung. Sie sind leichte Opfer amazonischer Händler in Booten, welche die einheimische Produktion von Lianen, Latex, Hanffasern usw. mit Gütern bezahlen. Die Händler halten sie in ewiger Schuld und geben ihnen Schnaps, um so ihre Beherrschung und Ausbeutung zu garantieren. (de)

They share this area together with a number of other indigenous peoples, including the other Nadahup people, which they are closely related to, such as the , the Nukak, and the Hup - but also Arawakan peoples, and Tucanoan peoples, such as the Barasana and Tucano. The word Dâw is a self-designation, meaning people. In literature, as well as in Alto Rio Negro, they are often referred to as Kamã, but this is considered very pejorative. During the 1980s the Dâw were close to extinction due to an unbalance between the number of men and women. There were only few women, and many of the women left were old and unable to carry a child. In 1984, the number of Dâw was only 56. Since then the situation has improved considerably, and the Dâw are no longer threatened by extinction in spite of the low population. Today, all Dâw have the Dâw language as their first language, while many also speak Nheengatu and Portuguese. Vivono nello stato brasiliano dell'Amazonas, nella regione di , nella zona di confluenza tra i fiumi e Rio Negro. Condividono quest'area con altre popolazioni indigene che parlano lingueNadahup come i Nadëb, i Nukak e gli Hup, ma anche con quelle parlanti lingue Arawakan come i Barasana e i Tucano. Chiamano loro stessi con l'appellativo "Dâw", che nella loro lingua significa popolo o gente. La dizione Kama, utilizzata a volte in letteratura e nella zona del Rio Negro, è da loro considerata peggiorativa. Oltre alla , oggi i pochi nativi rimasti parlano tutti anche la lingua nheengatu e il portoghese. (it)
