- The Dutch nobility is a small elite social class constisting of individuals or families recognized as noble, and with or without a title of nobility in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The existence of nobility was established in the Constitution of the Netherlands of 1814. Those who belong to the nobility were entitled to certain privileges, in particular to take a seat in the "Ridderschap", a former executive and legislative assembly at the regional or provincial level, and herewith the power to select members for the States-Provincial. With the constitutional reform of 1848, all these privileges were abolished and the nobles lost their constitutional roles. Since then, the only privileges that the Dutch nobility still enjoy are the legal use of titles and the grant of coats of arms by royal decree. The nobility are currently regulated by the Nobility Act, passed into law on 1 August 1994, and is overseen by the , an official state institution of the Kingdom of the Netherlands which also maintains the official nobility register. - Bij de herziening van de Grondwet in 1848 werd de adelstand afgeschaft. Die adelstand was vastgelegd in de Nederlandse Grondwet van 1814. Wie tot de adelstand behoorde, kon aanspraak maken op bepaalde voorrechten, in het bijzonder het zitting nemen in een van de provinciale ridderschappen. Met de herziening van de Grondwet in 1848 verdwenen deze voorrechten. Personen met een adeltitel mochten hun titel wel houden. Het voeren van een adellijke titel of een predicaat is wettelijk beschermd. In Nederland kunnen mensen niet meer een adeltitel verkrijgen. Net als bijvoorbeeld in Duistland, Frankrijk, Oostenrijk. In Oostenrijk is het voeren van een adeltitel strafbaar zelfs. In België, Spanje en het Verenigd Koninkrijk groeit het aantal personen met een titel nog wel. Nederland kent, in tegenstelling tot bijvoorbeeld Frankrijk en Duitsland, een Wet op de adeldom. In koninklijke besluiten werd vastgelegd dat de adellijke titels en een predicaat in officiële documenten, zoals trouwaktes en reisdocumenten, moeten worden vermeld. Daartoe worden adelslijsten gepubliceerd zodat ambtenaren ervan op de hoogte zijn, welke personen een adellijk predicaat of titel hebben. (nl)
- A nobreza neerlandesa é um segmento histórico da elite socioeconômica (e, no passado, política e administrativa) dos Países Baixos que se distingue dos demais pelo seu caráter hereditário e reconhecimento oficial pelo Estado. O uso de títulos nobiliárquicos no Reino dos Países Baixos é regulado por lei de acordo com a Wet op de adeldom de 1994. Um órgão oficial intitulado Hoge Raad van Adel ("Alto Conselho da Nobreza") é responsável por manter o registro das famílias nobres e por aconselhar o governo em assuntos relativos à nobreza e à heráldica nos Países Baixos. O atual presidente do conselho (desde 1991) é o barão Coen Schimmelpenninck van der Oije. A admissão à nobreza do Reino dos Países Baixos se dá por decreto real de três formas distintas:
* Reconhecimento (em neerlandês, erkenning) de que a família da pessoa admitida pertencia à nobreza nativa dos Países Baixos antes de 1795;
* Incorporação (em neerlandês, inlijving) de membros da nobreza reconhecida de outros países. Novos pedidos de incorporação não são mais possíveis depois de um prazo de transição de 5 anos contados a partir da entrada em vigor da Wet op de Adeldom.
* Elevação à nobreza (em neerlandês, verheffing). Desde 1994, essa possibilidade só se aplica por lei a membros da casa real ou a ex-membros da casa real dentro de um prazo máximo de três meses após a sua exclusão da casa real. De acordo com a Nederlandse Adelsvereniging ("Associação da Nobreza Neerlandesa"), 324 famílias pertencem atualmente à nobreza neerlandesa. (pt)
