- Στη κατηγορία Προσωπικό καταστρώματος (deck personnel) του Προσωπικού πλοίων σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 73 του Κ.Δ.Ν.Δ. χορηγούνται γενικά τα εξής Αποδεικτικά ναυτικής ικανότητας που αποτελούν και τις επίσημες ειδικότητες του κλάδου:
* Δίπλωμα Πλοιάρχου Α΄, Β΄, και Γ΄ τάξεως (με κατώτερο το Γ΄ τάξεως).
* Δίπλωμα Πρακτικού Πλοιάρχου.
* Πτυχίο Ναυκλήρου
* Πτυχίο Κυβερνήτου Α΄, Β΄, και Γ΄ τάξεως (που πρόκειται για μικρά σκάφη).
* Πτυχίο Κυβερνήτου Ρυμουλκών και
* Άδεια ναύτη. Σε κάθε πλοίο το Προσωπικό καταστρώματος διακρίνεται σε Αξιωματικούς Καταστρώματος (Deck Officers),σε Υπαξιωματικούς Καταστρώματος (Deck Petty Officers) και σε Πλήρωμα Καταστρώματος (Deck Crew). (el)
- The deck department is an organisational team on board naval and merchant ships. The department and its manning requirements, including the responsibilities of each rank are regulated within the STCW Convention, applicable only to the merchant fleets of countries who have ratified it. The department is led by deck officers, who are licensed mariners, and they are commanded overall by the ship's captain. Seafarers in the deck department work a variety of jobs on a ship or vessel, but primarily they will carry out the navigation of a vessel from the bridge. However, they are usually also responsible for supervising and monitoring any maritime cargo onboard, as well as ensuring maintenance of the deck and upper hull structure, monitoring the stability of the ship, including loading and discharging ballast water, carrying out mooring operations, and finally anchoring a ship. - A seção de convés (português brasileiro) ou secção do convés (português europeu) é um dos departamentos em que se organiza a tripulação e o serviço de bordo de uma embarcação da marinha mercante. A secção de convés tem como atribuições a navegação, a manobra, a estiva, a operação e manutenção dos equipamentos de salvamento, a limpeza e manutenção do casco e dos conveses e a operação geral da embarcação. Em veleiros, também lhe compete a operação e a manutenção do velame. Nas embarcações que não dispôem de serviços autónomos de radiotecnica e de saúde, a secção do convés também pode ter a seu cargo as telecomunicações, as radio-ajudas, a navegação por satélite, o serviço médico e o serviço de enfermagem. As embarcações das marinhas de guerra dispôem de um ou mais departamentos com funções semelhantes. Na maioria das marinhas mercantes, o comandante ou mestre da embarcação está incluído na secção do convés, apesar de, como responsável máximo a bordo, também superintender na secção de máquinas (seção de máquinas), na secção de câmaras (seção de câmaras) e nos outros departamentos.
