In 1992 he was promoted to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station in Rio Grande City, Texas. In July 1995 he was promoted to the Brownsville Border Patrol Station in Brownsville, Texas. Aguilar is a supporter of "comprehensive immigration reform" but told his membership that he does not support "amnesty" or "legalization." He has been accused by a whistleblower of hindering internal investigations into Border Patrol corruption. On March 31, 2013 David Aguilar retired after 35 years of government service with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the United States Border Patrol.
