- Dave Nicoll (Cambridge, 11 de maig de 1944) és un antic pilot de motocròs anglès que arribà a ser Clerk of the Course -càrrec oficial que designa al màxim responsable- del campionat del món de motocròs. És pare de Kurt Nicoll, destacat pilot de motocròs durant les dècades de 1980 i 1990 que va ser quatre vegades subcampió del món de 500cc. Nicoll va començar a competir a 16 anys i de seguida va aconseguir el patrocini d'un distribuïdor local de Greeves. A 17 anys va rebre patrocini de fàbrica del fabricant de motocicletes James. El 1964 va debutar en el Campionat del món de 500cc com a pilot oficial de Matchless, equip on s'estigué tres temporades fins que canvià al de BSA. Amb aquesta moto, el 1968 fou tercer al Campionat britànic. La seva única victòria en Gran Premi va ser al de Luxemburg de 500cc de 1969. A començaments de 1970, Nicoll va guanyar el prestigiós BBC Grandstand Trophy i a la tardor, als EUA, va derrotar els campions del món Joël Robert i Jeff Smith i va guanyar la Trans-AMA. Després de retirar-se de la competició el 1978, Nicoll va esdevenir director de l'equip britànic per al Motocross des Nations. També va fer de director de l'equip del seu fill, Kurt, quan aquest va començar a competir en el campionat del món. - Dave Nicoll (born 11 May 1944) is an English former professional Grand Prix motocross racer and currently the FIM's world championship Clerk of the Course. Nicoll began motorcycle racing at the age of 16 and received his first sponsorship from a Greeves distributor. At the age of 17, he received factory sponsorship from the James motorcycle company. In 1964, he began competing in the 500cc motocross world championships for the Matchless factory racing team. After three seasons with the Matchless team, he moved to the BSA factory team. His only Grand Prix victory came at the 1969 500cc Luxembourg Grand Prix. In 1970, Nicoll defeated world champions Joel Robert and Jeff Smith to win the 1970 Trans-AMA motocross series, established by the American Motorcyclist Association as a pilot event to help establish motocross in the United States. After retiring from competition in 1978, Nicoll worked as the manager of the British Motocross des Nations team. When his son, Kurt Nicoll began competing in the motocross world championships, Nicoll became his team manager. His son finished as the runner-up in the 500cc world championships four times. After his son retired from competition in 1997, Nicoll was hired by the FIM to become the Clerk of Course for the motorcross world championships. (en)
