On 20 February 2006 Marshall was sworn in by Sir Clifford Husbands at Government house to the post of Attorney-General, a post which he held until the 20 December 2007 when Prime Minister Owen Arthur dissolved Parliament and called elections. Following the Barbados Labour Party's defeat at the polls 15 January 2008, Dale Marshall was appointed by the new Leader of the Party and Opposition Leader Mia Mottley, to the post of Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
