- The Dagger in the Library (Golden Handcuffs in 1992–1994) is an annual award given by the British Crime Writers' Association to a particular "living author who has given the most pleasure to readers". Yearly shortlists are drawn up of the ten authors most nominated, online, by readers, and the final decision is made by a panel of librarians. It was sponsored by Random House until 2015. (en)

L’auteur doit être vivant, avoir publié au moins trois romans dans sa carrière, avoir travaillé de préférence en Grande-Bretagne et ne pas avoir déjà été récompensé par ce prix. Une liste restreinte est établi d’après les commentaires reçus par les bibliothèques et complété par l’avis de plusieurs groupes de lecteurs du Royaume-Uni avant que la décision finale ne soit prise par un panel de bibliothécaires ou un jury constitué pour l’occasion.
