- Curious George is a children's book written and illustrated by Margret Rey and H. A. Rey, and published by Houghton Mifflin in 1941. The first book in the Curious George series, it tells the story of an orphaned monkey named George and his adventures with the Man with the Yellow Hat. As of 1 May 2021, it has sold over 25 million copies, and has been translated into various different languages such as Japanese, French, Afrikaans, Portuguese, Swedish, German, Chinese, Danish, and Norwegian. It is also in the Indie Choice Book Awards Picture Book Hall of Fame and has been the subject of scholarly criticism. (en)

È il primo libro della serie Curioso come George e racconta la storia di una scimmia orfana di nome George e le sue avventure con l'Uomo con il cappello giallo. L'idea di Curioso come George è nata da un precedente lavoro di Rey, Rafi et les 9 singes (Rafi e le nove scimmie), pubblicato a Parigi nel 1939. Uno dei personaggi di quella storia è una scimmietta di nome George, a cui poi i coniugi Margret e H.A. Rey decisero dedicare un intero libro di avventure. Peraltro, il nome di Margret Rey non è apparso nelle prime edizioni di Curioso come George perché l'editore pensava che la letteratura per bambini fosse troppo dominata dalle donne. (it)
