- كومندا أو دراما بين البرية أو بين الوحشيين (بالإسبانية: Cumandá o Un drama entre salvajes) هي رواية للكاتب والروائي والسياسي والرسام الإكوادوري خوان ليون ميرا. وقد تم إرسال الرواية إلى مدير الأكاديمية الملكية الإسبانية من مدينة أمباتو الإكوادورية في 10 مارس 1877 كهدية مقدمة من الكاتب إلى الأكاديمية الملكية. وتدور أحداث الرواية في الإكوادور في بدايات القرن 19. كتبت أحداث الرواية عندما تم استكشاف بعض القبائل من أراضى شرق الإكوادور. حيث كانوا مستعمريين من قبل الهجناء والمبشرين البيض الذين يحملون الكاثوليكية معهم. وفي تلك الأراضي البعيدة، تواجدت قبائل الخيباراس والثاباراس. واعتبر المستعمر الإسباني قبيلة الخيباراس وحشيين، ويرجع ذلك إلى ممارساتهم الوحشية في حروبهم وعاداتهم. بين تلك القبائل المليئة بالتحالفات والمواجهات امرأة فاتنة تسمى كومندا، وهذه هي بطلة الرواية بجانب حبيبها كارلوس.نقلت الرواية للمسرح بنفس اسمها كومندا الذي كتبها لويس أومبيرتو سالجادو. وتعد حاليا من أقدم الروايات في الإكوادور وأمريكا اللاتينية. Juan León Mera sent the novel from Ambato, Ecuador to the Director of the Royal Spanish Academy on March 10, 1877. He wanted the novel to be presented to the Academy as a show of gratitude for recently being appointed a member. In the letter he pointed out that although writers such as François-René de Chateaubriand and James Fenimore Cooper had already written novels about savages in America, his was very different because it took place in the jungles of the Amazon whose natives had very different customs from those of North America, and of whom very little had been written about thus far. - Cumandá o Un drama entre salvajes es una novela escrita por el ensayista, novelista, político, y pintor ecuatoriano Juan León Mera. Fue enviada al Excmo. Señor Director de la Real Academia Española el 10 de marzo de 1877 desde la ciudad de Ambato-Ecuador, con el objetivo de que esta sea presentada a la Real Academia. La novela tiene lugar en el Oriente ecuatoriano a mediados del siglo XVIII. Esta fue escrita cuando las tierras del oriente ecuatoriano eran poco exploradas. Éstas a su vez fueron colonizadas por mestizos y blancos misioneros que llevaron el catolicismo consigo. En estas lejanas tierras orientales se encuentran las tribus jíbaras y záparas. Los jíbaros son tribus consideradas como salvajes por los conquistadores españoles debido a sus crueles prácticas en la guerra y costumbres. En estas tribus llenas de alianzas y confrontaciones se encuentra una dulce mujer que se llama Cumandá, la protagonista de la novela al igual que su amante Carlos,hijo de Don Orozco La novela fue llevada al teatro con el mismo nombre de Cumandá escrita por Luis Humberto Salgado. Hoy en día es una novela clásica de la literatura ecuatoriana y latinoamericana. (es)
